Salisbury girls bounce back after tough loss

After suffering their first loss to Lehighton, the Lady Falcons showed they could bounce back and win after a tough loss. Another tough loss was followed by a big win to put Salisbury at 5-2 overall with one game to play before their Christmas break.

Salisbury took out the disappointment of a tough four-point loss to Lehighton with a 43-28 win over the Bangor Slaters. Kendra Morgan equaled her highest point total of the season, scoring 24 points in the win over Bangor and Tessa Kemmerer scored a season-high nine points.

Morgan, a senior, is leading the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game through seven games. She has also helped as a team leader on a team with only eight players, many of them with little or no varsity experience.

Northern Lehigh pulled off a small upset over the Falcons. The Bulldogs have been hanging around the .500 mark this season but came into Salisbury and grabbed a 34-21 win before heading home.

Again, Salisbury bounced back after a loss, albeit against a winless team, downing Moravian Academy 43-9. The game allowed Falcon head coach Jason Laky to rest some players who have been playing a high number of minutes and get experience for the younger players on the roster. Junior Roxana Cardenas, who is averaging 8.7 points per game this season, led the Falcons with 13 points in the win.

Salisbury is 4-2 in the Colonial League, which has them sixth overall but leading the South Division.

The Falcons play a non-league game at Quakertown before getting some time off. They return to play for one game between Christmas and New Years when they travel to Kutztown for another non-league game. The league schedule continues after the holidays when they plat at Southern Lehigh on Jan. 2.
