Parkland girls fall to Emmaus, beat Kids, ACC

The Parkland High School girls basketball team won two of its three games in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action last week, suffering its first defeat of the 2025-26 regular season along the way. But the Trojans still remain one of the top four teams in the conference heading into the change of the calendar year.

Parkland began the week with a 54-24 win at Northampton last Tuesday, Dec.16. They followed that two nights later with a 66-47 victory against Central Catholic. Last Saturday afternoon, the Trojans were defeated for the first time this season in a 51-45 overtime game at Emmaus.

In the win over the Kids, Parkland jumped ahead early and never looked back, holding a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and then outscoring Northampton 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 32-9 lead at halftime.

Cheryllana Cunningham led all scorers with 14 points. Yana Smaltz finished with eight points. Both Carly Spang and Isabella Hallal tallied six points and Hailey Hudson had five points.

In the victory against the Vikettes, the Trojans used a strong second quarter to take control of the game. They led 16-9 after the opening frame, but then outscored ACC 20-12 in the second quarter to go into the locker room at halftime ahead 36-21. They kept the double figure advantage the rest of the way.

Cunningham finished with a game-high 19 points. Savannah Gonzalez recorded 11 points. Arielle Brown and Hallal netted eight points and each of Spang and Aneri McGalla contributed six points.

In arguably Parkland’s toughest game to date, the Hornets outlasted the Trojans in a matchup of undefeated teams in the conference. Emmaus had to come from behind as it trailed 15-9 after the first quarter, but tied the score at 25-25 at halftime.

The Hornets continued the momentum into the third quarter as they pushed their lead into double figures and then held on late. Hallal tallied 12 points and Spang added 11. Gonzalez recorded six points and both Smaltz and McGalla had four.

Parkland, which is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference, traveled to take on Red Lion Area Tuesday. The Trojans will host their holiday tournament next Monday and Tuesday and will take on Liberty in the first game Monday.
