Parkland boys wrestlers beat Dieruff, Blue Mtn.
The Parkland wrestling team has gotten off to a solid start to the 2025-26 season.
After a setback against Northampton in the opening week, the Trojans (2-2 overall; 1-2 in EPC) responded with dominant victories over Dieruff (44-20) and Blue Mountain (60-9).
Parkland picked up four wins via fall against the Huskies last Wednesday to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Luis Moya pinned Edwin Herrera in 1:25 in the opening match at 107 pounds. Forfeit wins by Braden Todora and Chase Kurk at 114 and 121 pounds, respectively, pushed the Trojans’ lead to 18-0.
Matthew Velez won via fall at 133 pounds to keep the Trojans’ momentum going, defeating Theodore Tise in 1:15 to increase Parkland’s lead to 24-5. Jorge Moya (172) and Max Pugach (215) were the other Trojans to earn pins. Moya took down Jonah Nieves in 1:24, while Pugach pinned Daniel Gandy in 4:37.
Donato Ciampittiello (160) won by technical fall over Matthew Daboura, 18-2, while Jayden Santiago (189) picked up a 4-1 decision over Yahveh Rosario.
Parkland faced a setback the following night against Easton. The Red Rovers won 7 of the 13 bouts on their way to a 34-27 victory on their home floor.
Luis Moya (107) and Todora (114) both pinned their opponents to open the match and put Parkland in front, 12-0. Moya took down Scott Tabaka in 1:44, while it took Todora just 24 seconds to pin Brayden Abrams.
Despite losing the next four bouts, Parkland did not fold and go away quietly. Tycen Norman won by decision, 2-1, over Wyatt Snyder to get within 18-15. Jorge Moya (160) won by tech fall, 19-3 in 4:25, over Logan Young two bouts later, and Ciampittiello won by major decision over Michael Zamora, 11-2, for Parkland to go back in front 24-23.
Easton won two of the final three matches to secure the win. Myles Lysek capped Parkland’s scoring with a 4-1 decision over Dan Vargas at 285 pounds.
Parkland got back on the winning path with a dominant 60-9 victory over Blue Mountain on Monday. The Trojans won 11 of the 13 contested bouts, including seven by fall.
Ciampittiello (172), Santiago (189), Pugach (215) and Lysek (285) closed out the match with four consecutive pins for the Trojans. Ciampittiello pinned Jarrid Hilt in 5:54, Santiago took down David Renninger in 1:24, Pugach followed that up with securing a fall over Dylan Foose in 1:49, and Lysek capped the streak with his fall in 4:47 over Vaugh Helverson.
Luis Moya opened the match at 107 pounds by pinning Grayson Freed in 1:27. Two bouts later, Kruk won by fall against Aidan Bossons in 21 seconds. Santilli was the other Trojan to pick up a pin, taking down Brian Brobst in 2:39.
Three Trojans won by technical fall for bonus points: Todora (114), Matthew Velez (133) and Norman (145). Todora picked up his tech fall over Caden Fenstermacher, 19-3 in 2:36, Velez secured his over Keenan Hall, 17-2 in 2:00, and Norman won in the second period with a 17-2 victory over Troy Mady.
Ricardo Rivera capped of Parkland’s scoring with an 11-6 decision over Cooper Leibold at 127 pounds.
Results from Wednesday’s match against Allen were not available at time of press. Parkland will compete at the King of the Mountain tournament on Friday and Saturday at Central Mountain High School.
