Northwestern girls earn three more league wins

The Northwestern girls basketball team recently rattled off three more wins against Colonial League opponents by an average margin of victory of 34 points per game.

Sophomore Natalie Conner had back-to-back games with 25 points against Moravian Academy and Saucon Valley. Against Palmerton on Saturday, Conner scored 16 in a win.

In an 85-22 win over Moravian Academy, Hannah Gober dropped in 17 points, nine of which came on three-pointers. The Lions have allowed an average of 55 points per game while scoring just 13 per game, including a 50-1 loss against Wilson early in the season.

Conner’s second 25-point game of the week came in a 57-39 win over Saucon Valley. Conner hit four three-pointers in that win and 11 for the week.

On Monday night, Northwestern traveled to Palmerton where it beat the Blue Bombers 49-27 to stretch its overall record to 8-1 and its Colonial League record to 7-0. Senior Mallory Conner scored 12 points against Palmerton.

On Jan. 16. Northwestern and Lehighton, the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Colonial League, play at Lehighton. A week later, Lehighton visits New Tripoli for the second of two meetings between the two teams.

The two teams are not only knotted at the top of the league standings but are in the same division. Both are in the 4A classification for districts.

After a game at Pottsville, Northwestern is off for 10 days until after the New Year’s holiday. At that point the Tigers will be matched up against Notre Dame of Green Pond on the road with their next home game on Jan. 6 against Wilson.
