Mama’s Musings - Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
My New Year goal? Do a little less. The week before Christmas, I started removing things which did not work from my lists. I also gave myself permission to fail. It took me almost a full week to figure out how to fold the twin bed frame my youngest used while on crutches. The first time, I removed two of the wrong screws. I tried to fold it. It made a triangle. So I left it until a change of plans gave me a free morning, and I looked at it again, and successfully removed the correct screws and got it properly folded.
I canceled going to a hockey game (third in five days) and was happy with the decision. I turned down two press assignments that would have added stress.
The child support finally came through. The ex still owes for the month, so I may get one more payment, or the arrears will creep up. Still, it helps.
I answered one-day job email. Because I could answer it quickly.
I laughed when I couldn’t app deposit a Christmas gift, because the sender’s signature slightly covered a zero. It was nice to not be hyper-fixated on money for a change. It was a good feeling.
Sometimes you have to let things go. Sometimes you have to add things. Any other bakers in Bethlehem have to add additional liquid to their cookies? I’ve had to, and I’m curious. I found the King Arthur brand makes a 1:1 gluten-free flour that actually mixes like flour. That might be why I had to add extra liquid. Like most gluten-free things, it was pricey, but I was happy to find it on sale. So that is what much of my holiday baking will be made with. I was also glad his favorite curly fries are naturally gluten free.
He can have some gluten, just not a lot. I had to explain to the ex that pancakes for breakfast, chicken nuggets for lunch and pizza for dinner was too much gluten. I was able to give him alternatives to make on his day with the youngest. I sent it all in texts. Poor kiddo. Still, a few diet adjustments and calcium and D3 supplements isn’t that difficult, and it is making a positive difference.
I don’t know what 2026 will bring. Above all, I hope my family stays healthy. The last few years were tough that way. I still have to get shelves for the youngest’s casts. He fussed about getting his flu and covid vaccines. I stood my ground on that one. A broken arm, a bone bruised knee and a surge of gluten troubles is enough without adding preventable sicknesses.
I hope your new year brings good health and prosperity. I hope the same for us.
