Loris “Joanne” Joan Barnette - Central Moravian Church member

Loris “Joanne” Joan Barnette died Dec. 10, 2025, in Bethlehem. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James Adrian Harner and Mabel Mayfield Harner., She was the wife of Curtis “Hank” H. Barnette for 68 years.

She was a 1953 graduate of Morgantown HS. She was a 1957 graduate of West Virginia University where she was president of Panhellenic Council and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She earned a Master of Education Degree from Lehigh University in 1976.

She joined Trans World Airlines in New York City. She worked in Frankfurt, Germany, where her husband was stationed, for the United States Army. She worked for Yale University.

She was a member of Central Moravian Church.

She was a president of the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley; was a chair of the Allentown Art Museum; and was a director of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation and Historic Bethlehem. She supported the National Museum of Industrial History, the DaVinci Science Center, Arts Quest and others.

She helped establish Barnette Scholarships at Central Moravian Church, Moravian University, St. Luke’s University Health Network, West Virginia University, the Yale Law School, Lehigh University, Northampton Community College, DeSales University, the University of Charleston and elsewhere.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, C. Kevin of Bethlehem and James D. and his wife Chelo Villanueva of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister, Debra Harner Hickman of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Karen Barnette Johnson and her husband David of Huntersville, North Carolina; and many other relatives.

Contributions be made to charities of choice.
