Hornets swimmers get ready to make a splash

Like each season, the Emmaus swimming and diving teams will have a few graduates to replace when they hit the water to start the 2025-26 season.

The EHS girls team lost two district champs and state qualifiers in Natalie Cheplick and Veronica Karboski, while the Hornet boys team has three key cogs to replace in Brady King, Julian Vlaeminck and 2025 East Penn Conference Swimmer of the year Griffin Messenlehner, who earned four gold medals and the Swimmer of the Meet award at last year’s District 11 championships.

Emmaus head coach Tim O’Connor, who enters his 24th season at the helm of the program, had coached his boys team to 16 straight District 11 titles before Parkland ended the streak last winter.

This year O’Connor would love to see his boys team start a new streak.

“Our boys team lost some huge points from our district and state teams last year, but returned a solid bunch, along with some youth moving up the competitive scale, which should help this season be successful,” said O’Connor.

This year’s team returns two members of last year’s PIAA medalist 400-yard freestyle relay team in seniors Roman Herman and Bryce King, along with state qualifier Reid Lovett (senior) and Joe Lyons (senior).

The rest of this year’s boys roster includes seniors Doug Cornish (diving), Parker Gamler, Ridley Hartman, Brady Hazlett, Aaron Kenny, Nate Peters and Will Reichart; juniors Jack Duerholz, Evan Fegley, Evan LaRussa, Graham Lovett, Carson Mosel, Liam Schaefer, Matt Sirignano, Brennan Smith, Carter Smith and Evan Walker; sophomore Seamus Daly; and freshmen Ian Kenny, Logan Mills, Chase Pennypacker and Shawn Pennypacker.

The Hornet girls team, which has just three seniors on the roster, returns is led by returners Mabry Krause (junior), Sophia Harmon (senior), Babs Lyons (sophomore), and Sriya Reddy (sophomore).

Krause and Harmon were both on last year’s 400 freestyle relay that qualified for states.

“Our girls team, while small last year, really showed some grit and toughness,” said O’Connor. “And we return some kids who earned state meet experience. Add to this some youth moving up the competitive scale, which should help this season be successful.”

The rest of the EHS girls roster included seniors Laura Justesen (diving) and Bella Marsh; junior Liz Mazzetti; sophomores Taylor Bispeck, Reagan Coffey, Maddy Roberts and Ella Schucavage; and freshmen Ellie Bowen, Kaylee Butz, Addie Cornish (diving), Kenzie Gaiser, Maddie Gower, Kayla Kenner and Chloe Mosel.

Emmaus assistant coaches for the 2025-26 season are Robert Barnum, Sean Fisher, Morgan Brighenti and Zach Snyder, along with diving head coach Frank Donnelly and diving assistants Marc Manley and Chrissy Cornish.
