Hornet hockey splits two games

The Emmaus High School ice hockey team got off to a good start to the 2025-26 regular season in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Ice Hockey League, winning two of its first three games.

That hot streak continued as the Hornets split a pair of games the two weeks leading up to Christmas.

On Monday, Dec. 15, Emmaus downed Nazareth 7-4 and then followed that up the next week with a 7-6 loss to Parkland, which scored a goal late to win.

In the victory over the Blue Eagles, the Hornets put the pedal to the medal early and scored five goals in the first period while allowing just one. They added one in each of the next two periods to finish off Nazareth.

Luke Patterson led the way with four goals, netting two in the first period and one in each of the next two. Aiden Bloom tallied both of his goals in the opening frame and Noah Holschwander rounded out the scoring for the n Hornets with a first-period goal.

Patterson also had two assists, while Holschwander added one. Cayden Saul finished with 23 saves in net for the win.

In the game with the Trojans, Emmaus held a one-goal lead after the first period (2-1) and then a two-goal advantage after the second period (5-3). But Parkland rallied in the final frame, outscoring the Hornets 4-1 to secure the come-from-behind victory.

Scott Ware finished with a team-high two goals, the opening two goals in the first period for his team, and added an assist. Bloom, Patterson, Aidan Nichols and Ryan Nytz all contributed one goal.

Nichols and Austin Schmidt both recorded two assists, while Silas Wellhoener and Holschwander each had one assist. Saul made 27 saves in net. Parkland scored the final four goals of the game with the final one coming at the very end by Bryce Haas.

Emmaus took on the Saints this past Monday night at the Bethlehem Municipal Rink and have a two-game week next week as it plays Nazareth Monday and then faces the Saints again Friday at Steel Ice.

The Hornets are 3-2 overall with six points and are in second place behind Northampton (6-0) in the five-team LVSHL varsity standings. The Saints (2-2) are third, followed by Parkland (1-4-1) and Nazareth (0-4-1).
