Girls wrestlers win tourney, top Easton

The Parkland girls wrestling team picked up two big wins last week.

The Trojans improved to 3-0 in dual meets last Thursday with a 54-13 win over Easton, avenging their only loss from last season. Two days later they took first place at the Escape the Rock tournament at North Penn High School.

Against the Red Rovers, Parkland had four wins by fall and two by decision, along with four forfeit wins.

Payton Schneck (106), Lily Snook (118), Leila Palmieri (130) and Liz Karla Grullon-Vasquez (235) all pinned their Easton opponents. teammates Angelina Spachman (136) and Natalie Deutsch (155) won by decisions. Taya Daniels (100), Laura Volpe (142), Victoria Lasagna (148) and Chloe Grady (190) picked up forfeit wins against Easton.

Parkland had 10 place winners and amassed 213 points Saturday at Escape the Rock. The Trojans took first place in the team standings by a wide margin over second-place Neshaminy (130.5) at the 48-team event.

Spachman (136) took first place in the tournament, pinning Octarora’s Ella Teufert in the second period of the title bout.

Grullon-Vasquez (190) finished second in her bracket, while Schneck (106), Saige Rittenhouse (124) and Emily Siglin (170) all finished fourth Saturday. Volpe (142) and Abrianna Gomez (170) won fifth-place matches in the tournament, while Snook (118), Lasagna (148) and Deutsch won seventh-place matches.

Parkland will have a few weeks off from matches as the Trojans’ next outing will the Parkland Duals on Sunday, Jan. 4. Some of the teams visiting Orefield for that event include Emmaus, Panther Valley, Delaware Valley, East Stroudsburg South, Freedom, Northampton, Pennsbury and Pocono Mountain East.
