Girls fall to Wilson
The Northampton girls basketball team ended the 2025 portion of their regular season schedule with a lackluster 59-36 defeat to Wilson Area on Monday in Pete Schneider Gymnasium.
The Warriors finished the first quarter on an 8-0 run to stretch their lead from 9-6 to 17-6 and the K-Kids never got the margin below double digits the rest of the game.
“Wilson’s like Becca Lite. They’re not quite as good as Becca, but they play the same way. They scramble around and run at you. We had a good game against Becca (the Kids trailed by 1 going to the fourth quarter). This game was a total night and day,” lamented head coach Jeff Jacksits.
Northampton had no answers for sensational Wilson sophomore Juli Bonham, who dropped 26 points on the Kids over the first three quarters before sitting out the entire final period.
“We told them coming into the game that she was the key to the game and we had to contain her. Whenever she got the ball, we knew we couldn’t leave her, but they let her step out and shoot. I think they probably came out today and thought, ‘Wilson, we should be able to beat Wilson.’” explained Jacksits.
The K-Kids continue to struggle to identify a primary ball handler. They turned the ball over 17 times during the first three quarters and were unable to get the ball into the post to take advantage of the height advantage they had whenever Wilson’s center left the game.
Northampton heads into 2026 with a 4-6 overall record and 2-5 in the EPC. They have several winnable games in the back half of their schedule, but it is going to require a few upsets to get to the 11 wins needed to qualify for districts.
One other program note – the remainder of the JV season has been canceled. There were only 7 players rostered and three of those players suffered injuries.
