December: Spirit,
service, success
Gearing up for the end of the semester, the month of December at Freedom HS was packed with course planning, school spirit, and plenty of ways for students to get involved.
Ninth through 11th graders were able to choose their classes for the upcoming school year, including new options like AP Cybersecurity and AP Business and Personal Finance.
Student Government members helped bring the holiday spirit to life this month by visiting Governor Wolf and Miller Heights elementary schools for their annual holiday readings, spreading cheer to younger BASD students. They also went caroling at Country Meadows Retirement Community.
December was Spirit Month at Freedom, with fun days that made the school feel extra festive. Service projects were happening all over Freedom. NHS hosted a blood drive Dec. 9, giving students and community members a chance to give back. The Medical Club collected comfort items through its Holiday Drive, and the annual Angels to Adorn program allows clubs and classes to support BASD families during holiday break.
Students also showed off their talents this month. The Fine and Practical Arts Department hosted its annual Art Show and Orchestra Concert, and DECA members headed to their competition at LCCC, with multiple Freedom contestants securing first places. The Debate Team finished strong with a 15–5 record and a finals appearance. Thank you to our final team, Eliza Moore, Charlotte Korrapati and Samuel Beardall.
Winter sports are officially underway, with swimming and diving, rifle, wrestling, and basketball teams starting their seasons strong. Overall, our Pates have been jammed this marking period, and their hard work and dedication often go unnoticed.
Happy Holidays from Freedom HS!
