Falcons beat Mahanoy Area in season opener

The Salisbury boys basketball team opened the 2025-26 season last Saturday afternoon with nonleague win over Mahanoy Area, 60-45.

Salisbury took an early lead and built it up throughout the game for a win in the opener.

Julian Makhoul hit two three-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points in the win. Mahanoy’s Ryan Zilker led his team with 15 points and Connor Bowman scored 14, 12 of which came from beyond the arc.

Salisbury finished the first quarter with a three-point lead at 16-13 and expanded that in the second quarter to take a 28-18 lead at halftime. The Golden Bears pulled to within seven at the end of the third quarter, but the Falcons locked up the game in the final 12:00, scoring 17 points for the 60-45 win.

Drew Petrie scored 11 points for Salisbury with both Steven Lozada and Garrett Leiner adding nine points.

The Falcons open their Colonial League schedule this week with a game at Pen Argyl and then travel to face Lehigh Valley Academy in a nonleague game. They finish a string of three straight games on the road at Palisades on Monday. Salisbury doesn’t play at home again until next Thursday when it hosts Jim Thorpe.
