EHS boys wrestlers beat Pleasant Valley
The Emmaus wrestling team remained undefeated on the season with a dominant 60-12 victory over Pleasant Valley last Wednesday. The Hornets won eight of the 10 contested bouts to secure the comfortable win on their home mat.
Five different Hornets picked up pins against Pleasant Valley. Andrew Gerken opened the match at 107 pounds and dominated Leo Phillips, pinning him in 1:34 to give the Hornets a quick 6-0 lead that would never be threatened.
After Talan Springer and Tegan Caciolo won by forfeit at 114 and 127 pounds, respectively, Emilio Albanese pinned Jimmy Stipeck in their 133-weight class bout in just 51 seconds. It took five matches for the Hornets to pick up their next pin, but three pins in the last four bouts helped Emmaus seal the victory.
Xayden Sallit (172 pounds) first pinned Benjamin Jochen in 1:24 to put Emmaus in commanding control at 48-6. Logan Armstrong then took care of business at 189 pounds, pinning Adis Vukel late in the second period. Logan Roth capped the Hornets’ scoring at 285 pounds with his pin over Frederick Merklin in 2:37.
Jackson Max picked up bonus points for the Hornets. Max (139) won by technical fall over Zach Jochen, 17-2, in 1:07. Aiden Bayard (152) won by major decision two bouts later, taking down Patrick Decker, 16-5. Xander Leonetti (160) followed that up with a 9-4 decision win over Preston Snyder.
Tommy Fallstich won via forfeit at 145 pounds.
