Blunt finishes fifth at MyHouse
The Salisbury wrestling team competed in the MyHouse Trojan Wars tournament this past weekend at Chambersburg High School. The Falcons finished 36th out of the 47 competing schools, and a number of Salisbury wrestlers had stellar showings.
Jarrod Blunt finished with the highest placement over the weekend, going 4-2 in the 127-pound weight class to secure a fifth-place mark. All four of his wins came by fall.
In Blunt’s opening match, the sophomore pinned Bald Eagle’s Liam Corey in 1:11. He followed that by pinning Jackson Aparicio of West Springfield in 5:09, which advanced Blunt to the quarterfinal round.
Blunt picked up his third pin, taking down Spring Mills’ Landyn Lioi in 2:42 to move on to the semifinals.
After losses in the championship semifinals and consolation semifinals, respectively, Blunt rebounded. His final pin — coming in 4:41 against Conwell-Egan’s Lukas Grodzki — propelled Blunt to that fifth-place finish.
Jordan Tocci-Wachter went 3-2 at 152 pounds before his tournament run came to an end in the sixth round of the consolation bracket. Tocci-Wachter opened with a quick pin, taking down Downingtown West’s Merhawy Williams in 26 seconds. He then suffered a close, 4-2, decision loss against Colin Baldesari of West Chester Rustin to move him into the consolation bracket.
Tocci-Wachter didn’t go away without a fight, picking up back-to-back wins by fall in the consolation bracket. He first took down Colin Dwyer of James W. Robinson in 1:45, then secured a pin in 2:44 over Belle Vernon’s Vander Raczkowski.
Abai Beishembiev of West Springfield ended Tocci-Wachter’s run in the tournament with a 19-4 technical fall win.
Jacob Spinner (121 pounds), Michael Segata (160) and Sam Krauss (285) all went 1-2 over the weekend. Spinner picked up a major decision win over York Suburban’s Dominic Cajas, Segata won by decision over Lower Dauphin’s Rylan Urlich, and Krauss picked up his win in the opening round by pinning West Springfield’s Jakob Biegler.
Colton Tone went 0-2 at the tournament in the 172-pound weight class.
