Coplay: Railroad display open Jan. 2-4

Model Railroad Explorer Post 101 is again holding its holiday model railroad display open house in room 201 at Coplay Borough Hall, 98 S. Fourth St.

The large operating HO-scale layout is open 7-9 p.m. Jan. 2 and then noon-4 p.m. Jan. 3 and 4.

Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12-21 year olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.

Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative is providing free meals to low-income Whitehall-Coplay School District residents 4-6 p.m. Jan. 4 in the social hall at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Public works Director Paul Boyle reminds residents to call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups of sofas, mattresses (plastic encased), chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters, and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

Coplay Fire Department and Fire Police are under new leadership with fire Chief Dakota Fenstermaker, who wishes all residents in Coplay a happy holiday season.

If you want to serve Coplay and surrounding communities, consider joining the fire company. It is seeking volunteer firefighters and fire police.

Coplay aerobics classes are held 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the auditorium at borough hall. Bring dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.
