Dec. 27

Wildlands Conservancy will host a Get Out for Wellness end-of-year hike 10 a.m. to noon at Black River Sanctuary, 1300 Black River Road, Bethlehem. All are welcome. The hike is approximately 3 miles. The sanctuary is located near the Franko Farm Recreation Area. The hike is described as a gradual incline with smooth treadways, rocky sections and rooted paths. Hikers are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes and dress in layers. Registration is free and continues through Dec. 25 at the website www.wildlandspa.org. The hike is made possible with funding from Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Upper Macungie Township will hold its annual family-friendly Kids Noon Year’s Eve party 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Grange Park, 360 Grange Road. There will be inflatables, games, vendors, food trucks, bubble station, face painting, balloon animals, music and a noon balloon drop. For more information, go to uppermac.org.

A guided hike and fireside conversation will be held 2-4 p.m. at Black River Sanctuary, 1300 Black River Road, Bethlehem. The event will include an afternoon of hiking, storytelling and fireside conversation. Around the fire, hikers will meet members of the Wildlands Conservancy team, including Director of Property Stewardship Carl Martin, Preserve Manager Michael Hock and special guest Jim Apgar, forestry and habitat specialist at Pocono Lake Preserve. Join the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society in partnership with the Lehigh Gap Nature Center for the 12th annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids 9 a.m. to noon at Muhlenberg College, Allentown. CBC4Kids is a fun introduction to birding for kids ages 6-12 and their families. Participants will learn how to use binoculars, identify common birds, collect scientific data and form teams and conduct a bird count in a nearby park. After an hour of birding, everyone will reconvene to tally up the data and share their discoveries. Participants are encouraged to stick around for a tour of the Muhlenberg College bird museum. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1028 Church St., Fogelsville, will hold its free community curbside pickup dinner 5 p.m. while supplies last. All are welcome. Hawk Mountain will be hosting a Appalachian Winter Ecology Workshop taught by Dr. Dan Ardia, professor of biology at Franklin and Marshall College. This 3-day workshop will explore Hawk Mountain’s winter wildlife and how plants and other wildlife adapt to this critical life cycle period 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is a cost and registration is required to attend this program.
