LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LHS tops Freedom

Liberty and Freedom’s girls basketball teams met in a city rivalry game on Dec. 19 when the Hurricanes defeated the Patriots, 58-44, at Freedom.

Ava Kopetskie had a game high 27 points for the Hurricanes, and Kate Asaad led the Patriots with 12 points, followed by Sara Kokolus with 11 points.

After a 17-17 tie to end the first quarter, Liberty outscored Freedom, 22-8, in the second quarter, which would be the difference in the final score as both teams tied in the third quarter and were two points apart in the fourth.

Liberty’s victory was a nice bounce-back after a tough loss to Emmaus, 72-40, earlier in the week

The Hurricanes played a solid first quarter against the Hornets, who then widened the gap by 15 points by halftime.

Bethlehem Catholic had an easy time against East Stroudsburg South, taking a 50-14 victory over the Cavaliers on Dec. 18, preceded by a 49-21 win over Whitehall on Dec. 16.

This week, Becahi hosts Northampton, Freedom hosts Pocono Mountain West, and Liberty hosts Cardinal O’Hara before the Christmas break.
