Girls fall to Notre Dame, GP

Catasauqua’s girls basketball team hosted Notre Dame-Green Pond on Dec. 19 but fell to the Crusaders, 38-27.

The Rough Riders, who beat the Crusaders handily 10 months ago, were unable to repeat after a rocky first quarter during which the Roughs were shut out, 9-0.

Catty went on an 8-0 run in the first four minutes of the second quarter, but Notre Dame responded with its own 8-0 run to lead the Rough Riders, 17-10, at halftime.

Notre Dame’s defense forced multiple turnovers, especially in the second half, and the Crusaders made the most of defensive rebounds.

Late in the fourth quarter, Catty’s Kaylin Stewart scored on a putback, and teammate Sarina Sankari converted on a layup off a turnover, but a controversial offensive foul call negated Sankari’s bucket.

Less than 24 hours later, Catty registered a bounceback win over Wilson, 52-46.

Hailey Jenkins had a game high 25 points, Stewart added 14 points, and Sankari had 10 points.

The Rough Riders will have hosted Tamaqua on Dec. 23, past Press deadlines, to close out 2025.
