‘Animal whisperer’ organizes pet food drive

Renezmae Flamisch, a Salisbury Elementary School School student, has organized an animal food drive to benefit the dogs and cats residing in the Lehigh Valley Humane Society’s animal shelter, 640 Dixon St., Allentown.

Flamisch’s deep love of animals is evident in her affectionate relationships with her family’s two cats and two dogs. Furthermore, with the support of her parents, she visits the Dixon Street shelter several times a month to help socialize the animals through play and human interaction. According to her mother, Renezmae is an “animal whisperer.”

The donation drive began after Flamisch attended a Halloween party dressed as Dr. Dolittle. Inspired by the fictional doctor’s love of all living creatures, on Nov. 1 she began collecting pet food. Donor response has been outstanding.

In addition to a generous monetary gift, pet food and pet supplies have poured in.

The donations will be delivered to the shelter in time for Christmas and Flamisch is already looking to the future. She recently asked, “Mom, can I do this every year?”
