Zephs moving to 6A
The PIAA released enrollment numbers for sports classifications recently, giving some football programs new classes for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.
Whitehall’s reign in 5A has come to an end in football, as the Zephyrs will now be in 6A the next two seasons.
Southern Lehigh also moves up in football, as they head to 5A.
Whitehall has won six district titles since playing in 5A, including this year’s. Southern Lehigh has won back-to-back 4A championships.
Saucon Valley and North Schuylkill move up a class from 3A to 4A.
Pen Argyl and Executive also move up from 2A to 3A.
Central Catholic and Bethlehem Catholic fall under 2A enrollment numbers, but both will likely elect to class 4A again as a prerequisite to play in the East Penn Conference.
Enrollment numbers are determined by counting students in grades nine through 11.
For football, Class 6A has schools with 579 or more boys, Class 5A is 413 to 578, Class 4A is 282 to 412, Class 3A is 200 to 281, Class 2A is 142 to 199 and Class A has 141 or fewer.
Schools had until Dec. 1 to voluntarily choose to move up in classes.
