Hawks ready for another tough week

Keanu Dillard was the lone medalist for Bethlehem Catholic at last weekend’s Ironman Tournament in Ohio.

The Becahi senior took fourth at this year’s vaunted event after losing to Dale Corbin of Wyoming Seminary 3-2 in the ultimate tiebreaker in the 138-pound third place match.

Dillard, a three-time PIAA champion, took second at the tournament a year ago.

His finals trip was derailed following a 4-1 loss to Karson Brown of St. Edwards (OH) in the semifinals.

Dillard was the only Hawk to reach the championship round, as head coach Mike Cole knew the tournament would always be the toughest battle his team sees all year.

“Ironman was a learning experience for a lot of the kids,” said Cole. “Our youngsters looked promising, but this was the first real time Keanu competed in a while. Right now it is a pure mindset thing getting back in the groove. I’m not worried about him.”

The Hawks bounced back from their season opening loss to Emmaus with a 38-27 win over Northampton last week, but close out their toughest part of the season this week.

They host Easton on Wednesday night before heading to Delaware for the Beast of the East tournament this weekend.

Dillard was a finalist a year ago at the tournament and is hoping to make a return appearance again this time, but Cole wants to see his team continue to develop in this early part of the season.

“Strategically, we are looking to stalk or close distance and attack more,” he said of areas of improvements he’s looking for. “Plus, forward pressure on top.

Easton will be interesting. As I always want, I would like to see them compete at a high level without being worried or afraid to attack.”
