Boys fall to PHS
There was a playoff atmosphere at Parkland High School Tuesday night as the defending EPC champion Konkrete Kids squared off against the defending District XI 6A champ Trojans.
Northampton was also looking for a measure of revenge after losing to Parkland in the district final last year, but they did not find one this night as the home team prevailed 42-37.
The K-Kids were undone by a bad third quarter that saw the Trojans erase a 21-20 halftime deficit with a pair of threes on their first two possessions of the second half. Those were part of a 10-0 run that led them to a 32-24 lead going into the final quarter.
Parkland extended the lead to 10 with a pair of free throws to start the fourth, but Northampton kept whittling away at the lead as the Trojans missing shots from the charity stripe down the stretch.
When Brady Simock hit a rainbow trey with 1:07 left in the game, the margin stood at 39-37.
Parkland made one of two shots from the line to go up 3 points, giving the Kids 1:04 to tie the game. Northampton struggled to find an open look in a very long possession and wound up settling for an off-balance runner in the lane that bounced harmlessly off the rim.
The Trojans iced the game with a pair of foul shots.
“There’s a lot of things that we could better. We were right there. If you were a fan, that was probably a fun game to watch. Ruisch got off those two threes at the beginning of the third quarter and then we only scored three points in the quarter. That’s the difference right there,” explained head coach Matt Scholl.
Scholl continued, “I’m proud of our guys overall because last year we would have folded in that situation. To take that game that was 10 points at one point and get it down to one possession, I’m proud of them for that.”
The K-Kids stand at 6-1 for the season and 5-1 in the EPC. They have a pair of home games, Thursday against Stroudsburg and Saturday versus Bethlehem Catholic to close out the 2025 portion of their regular season schedule.
