Becahi eyes consistency

Pukszyn hits 1,000

Bethlehem Catholic is looking to string together some wins together and the Hawks might be in store to do that this week.

The Golden Hawks are 3-3 on the year after knocking off Crestwood 53-37 over the weekend.

Parker McClary scored 21 points for Beca in the win that puts them in position to get their first win streak of the season with games against Whitehall (1-5) and East Stroudsburg South (1-5) this week.

Head coach Scott McClary hopes that this week can get things running for the group before the holiday season.

“Like many teams early in the season we have been a bit inconsistent,” said McClary. “We have shown the areas that we need to continue to work on and improve but we have also shown some areas that we can excel. We started out playing without three starters and got one of them back. We are hoping to get one more back in the next few weeks so fingers crossed there.”

Ironically, Beca’s three wins have all come against nonleague opponents and all three of their losses have to come to teams in the EPC.

They’ll get a chance to pick up their first league wins this week against struggling teams like Whitehall and East Stroudsburg, before finishing play against an undefeated Northampton (6-0) team on Saturday.

“Always important to get a league win anytime that you are able to,” said McClary. “We compete in the top league in the area so always a challenge as the EPC is loaded with good teams and great coaches.”

Liberty (4-2) suffered their first league defeat of the season with a 63-45 drubbing at the hands of the K-Kids last week.

Jake Pukszyn led the team with 20 points and surpassed the 1,000 point mark of his career in the loss.

The Hurricanes look to get back on track this week with contests against Emmaus (3-5), Pocono Mountain West (4-1) and Freedom (0-6).

Freedom is still looking for their first win but have a chance to break that skid with a showdown against East Stroudsburg North (1-4) this week.

Freedom also plays Central Catholic (4-2) and Liberty.
