Christina Gay Richards

former Wescosville Cadette Troop leader

Christina Gay Richards, 92, of Longswamp Township, Berks County, died Dec. 14, 2025, at Arden Courts Memory Care in Wescosville. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward A. Richards, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2006.

Born in Sayre, she was the youngest of four children of Albert Snyder and Christina Little.

She grew up in Dushore, Sullivan County, graduating from Dushore High School in 1951, then attending the Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre, graduating in 1954.

During her career in nursing, she worked in pediatrics, communicable diseases, medical-surgical, school nursing at East Penn School District and diagnostic imaging at the Women’s Health Center of Allentown.

She was proud to be associated with the Girl Scouts of America. Active from the 1940s into the 2000s, she served 13 years as the leader of the Wescosville Cadette Troop in the 1970s and early 1980s. She also helped train hundreds of new leaders, serving more than 25 years as a trainer and instructor-of-trainers for the Great Valley Council.

She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Wescosville, where she took care of generations of young parishioners in the church nursery.

An avid collector, she was a member of the Pennsylvania Earth Sciences Association as well as the Pennsylvania Button Society and Star Button Club of Kutztown. She enjoyed flea marketing, researching family history and spending time with friends and relatives at her family’s farm in Sullivan County.

She waged a 14-year battle with dementia. Time eventually claimed her memories, but it could not extinguish her inherent desire to care for others and it could not diminish her love for her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Brian Moyer, of Hagerstown, Md.; son, Dale, of Longswamp Township; granddaughters, Erin (Brad) Shevock and Adria (Brandon) Zawicki; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Conor, Adalay and Ari.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Jeanne Stewart, Albert Snyder Jr. and Bruce Snyder.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Heintzelman-Stephens Funeral Home, 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. Family and friends may pay their respects 1:30-3 p.m. before the service.
