Parkland boys soccer season was ‘next level’

The Parkland High School boys soccer team just had its 2025 season end two weeks ago in the stat tournament.

Parkland finished the year 23-2-1, won the District 11 4A championship and earned two victories in the state tournament, falling just one game short of playing for the state title.

According to head coach Scott Mang, it was one of the best seasons in program history.

“The season was awesome,” said Mang. “We always set the standards high, but if you told me that we would be 23-2-1, EPC regular season champions, District 11 4A champions and knocking on the door of another possible shot at a PIAA state championship, I’d say you were crazy. It was one of the best teams we’ve ever had at Parkland and possibly the most fun I’ve ever had coaching. These boys were next level.”

Entering the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference playoffs as the top seed, the Trojans were upset in the semifinal round by fourth-seeded Freedom in overtime. Parkland then ran through districts and took down the EPC champion Emmaus in the final to win its third title in the last four years. The Trojans then defeated Springfield Township 3-2 in the first round of states and took down Haverford 4-3 in the next round before losing to West Chester Henderson in the semifinals.

“To win three district championships in four years is really something special and to do it against our cross-town rival made it even better,” Mang said. “Emmaus was the third-ranked team in the state at the time and it was an absolute dogfight. Once we got into the state tournament it was like a breath of fresh air. It’s so fun playing with and testing yourself against the best teams from around Pennsylvania. We have seven wins and three losses in the PIAA tournament in the past four years. We play a very difficult preseason and nonleague game in order to prepare for those moments. I’d say we were more than prepared to move deep into the tournament.”

There are nine seniors set to graduate, including Kerem Adali, Anthony Bautista Yucra, Marcel Bauza, Ryan Bender, Noah Dopera, Lincoln Fritz, Chris Park, Talmage Pollard and James Whitehead.

“The senior class built upon successes from last year’s historic run and almost made one themselves,” said Mang. “They are an awesome group of young men, excellent students and great soccer players.”

Fritz led the attack with 17 goals and four assists. Pollard finished with 15 goals and 10 assists. Alex Hurwitz tallied 14 goals and 15 assists. Bautista-Yucra recorded 11 goals and three assists and Bender contributed 10 goals and four assists. Sophomore goalie Andrew Staples made 28 saves, while junior Matt Feiller had 17.

Mang and his staff are excited for next season and are already working towards it.

“We are already preparing for next year,” Mang said. “I think we will be 2-3 players deep in each spot and most of them have big game experience. Our goal will be to compete for EPC, District 11 and a PIAA championship.”
