LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LHS looks to improve

Liberty’s wrestling offseason has been one of the best that head coach Brandon Hall has experienced in his tenure with the program and he hopes that can parlay into a productive season.

The Hurricanes are coming off an 8-10 season a year ago and bring back a young group with only one district medalist in junior Elijah Heimbach (114/121), who took sixth at 107.

Other returning wrestlers include juniors JT Solano (127/133), Ben Miller (133/139), Jose Rodriguez (139/145), Ben Reid (145/152) and senior Daniel Rivera (160).

Newcomers are freshmen Max Milia (107), Joey Miller (107/114) and senior Adriaan Deleon (160/172).

“This has been the best offseason commitment from any team I’ve been a part of,” said Hall. “The coaching staff had kids in the weight room three-to-four days a week and wrestling two-to-three times a week. We are young with only a few seniors on the roster. Tevin Gibson (junior high head coach) and Joe Guido (intramural coordinator) have done a good job at building up our numbers, which is evident in the number of underclassmen we have. We look forward to seeing how much progress the kids have made when it is time to compete in a very tough league and district.”

Hall expects Heimbach, Milia, Ben Miller to be standouts this season, as the group looks to improve from last years mark.

“We’re looking to improve upon last year’s record and EPC standing,” Hall said. “We will also look to improve on our individual tournament finishes while pushing to qualify for team districts.”

Liberty opened the season on Dec. 3 with a 45-15 win at Dieruff. Their next match is Dec. 10 at Pocono Mountain West and then Dec. 11 at home vs. Allen.

Jose Rodriguez returns for the Hurricanes.
