Hanover council approves 2026 budget
At the Nov. 19 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council approved ordinance 668 to accept the 2026 $8 million budget. Township Manager Melissa Wehr noted the budget has no property tax hike.
Council and administration members struggled to remember when the last property tax hike was.
Resolution 2025-38 adopting the budget amendments was approved.
Resolution 2025-36 was approved to accept the preliminary/final land development plan for Raising Cane’s Restaurants LLC, at 1836 Catasauqua Road, Allentown. The restaurant is expected to open in May 2026.
Council approved resolution 2025-37, which accepted the preliminary/final lot line consolidation and land development plan for the Lehigh Valley Academy black box theater, 2470 Schoenersville Road, Allentown.

Council authorized the release of a payment for the Lloyd Street mill and overlay project payment No. 1 and final payment in the amount of $243,824.85. The township engineer noted the project was completed, allowing for the payment after council approval.
A resident asked for relief regarding a sewer bill that quadrupled from $59.50 to $263. The meter read use of 24,000 gallons of water.
The resident is assisting another resident by monitoring the home. The homeowner vacated the home for personal reasons. The resident addressing council said no one has been living in the house during the sewer billing period, asking how 24,000 gallons of water could be used.
The resident said she checked the house for leaks and found none. Council Chair Bruce Paulus said council could not assist. It was suggested she check the meter that may be defective.
Council members approved the Nov. 5 regular council meeting minutes and the payment of bills up to Nov. 19, in the amount of $158,107.
