New uniforms approved for PHS band
The Parkland Board of School Directors granted unanimous approval to purchase new uniforms for the high school band at a cost of $199,338.50. The action was taken at the Nov. 18 meeting. Dr. Renee Mosser, director of visual and performing arts, provided information on the topic at October and November committee meetings. She said the uniforms presently in use are 27 years old.
“They are past life and have served the students well, but it is time now for new uniforms,” Mosser said.
In 1998, the district purchased 119 uniforms for $79,749. Mosser said the price per uniform at that time was $364 and the new uniforms will be $725 each.
She observed the cost is in line with inflation.
Mosser said all weather coats for the new outfits will be included in the price quote.
Director of Communication and Community Engagement Nicole McGalla said the uniforms will be unveiled at an event in fall 2026.
Uniforms will be supplied by G2 Performance, LLC. District officials got acquainted with this vendor at a PA Music Educators Association conference.
At an October meeting, the board granted approval for the Parkland High School marching band to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii May 23-28, 2026 for the National Memorial Day parade.
Board member David Ellowitch voted no on the trip, due to the cost.
“It’s an expensive trip. We have a lot of families in need,” Ellowitch said.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michelle Minotti reported the booster club is doing a lot of fundraising and will cover costs for students who need financial assistance to go along.
At the October committee presentation, it was reported the cost per student is about $4,900 to go on the trip. The booster club will pay to transport band equipment.
The trip is not mandatory and students may opt out.
The new uniforms will not be available in time for the trip.
