Meeting and zoning hearing canceled in Macungie

A large crowd packed the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St, Macungie, for the regularly scheduled Macungie Borough Council meeting Dec. 1. The agenda listed regular business including final approval of the 2026 budget as well as a hearing for proposed zoning changes.

Many in the audience attended the meeting in reference to the proposed zoning changes.

The proposed zoning ordinance is listed as an attachment to the Dec. 1 meeting agenda on the borough website. As listed in Ordinance 2025-1, “The Macungie Borough Planning Commission, the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission and the Macungie Borough Council have reviewed this proposed amendment to the official zoning map of Macungie Borough.”

As announced at a previous meeting, councilman Carl Sell spearheaded the zoning changes.

Solicitor Patrick Armstrong spoke about conduct at the meeting. He also noted the large number of people in attendance. According to http://www.macungieinstitute.com/rental-information.html, the maximum capacity of the auditorium is 100 people.

With an initial mention of canceling the meeting and zoning hearing, people did not leave. Ultimately, the entire meeting was canceled with another date and venue not announced. An advertisement will be published when a new meeting date is decided.
