Canes hope for playoff push

Liberty is coming off a 19-6 basketball season last winter and the Hurricanes are looking for more this season in Nigel Long’s sixth year under the helm as head coach.

The Hurricanes a strong core of seniors including Jake Pukszyn (Point Guard), Quin Lucas Bishop (Forward), Jarrell Teague (Guard), Will Palmer (Wing) and Nick Schenkel (Forward).

Juniors Willie Cruz (Guard) and Luke Heffernan (Guard) also return.

Newcomers are Samir Brown (Jr., Point Guard), Dylan Bilger (So., Wing), Mason Marfil (So., Point Guard), Brayden Kashner (So., Forward) and Tyriek Bolding (Fr., Guard).

“Our group this year has a healthy mix of experience and youth,” said Long. “We are excited to see how we progress as the season goes, in hopes to be playing our best at the end of the season.”

“Our goals as a team are to be playing our best basketball by the end of the season and to be competing in the league, district and state playoffs.”

Liberty opens the season on Nov. 29 at home against Hazleton before getting into league play on Dec. 1 against Bethlehem Catholic.

Jake Pukszyn returns for the Hurricanes this season.
