Gene L. Hardenberg

formerly of Schnecksville

Gene L. Hardenberg, CLU, ChFC, of Allentown, formerly of Schnecksville, died Nov. 26, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Sharon A. (Handwerk) Hardenberg. Born in Quakake, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late Dr. Howard H. and Gladys J. (Stibitz) Hardenberg.

He was employed as an insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance Company for 30 years before retiring in 1996. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during a peacetime era.

Having a love for nature and the outdoors, he was a member of the Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club, Copeechan Fish & Game Club, Trout Unlimited and NRA. He served as president and board member of the Cherry Ridge Association. He was a photographer for the Schnecksville Fair and fire and accident photographer for the Schnecksville Fire Company. He was also Cubmaster for Cub Pack 57, and assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 57 of Neffs. In his later years, he enjoyed Blue Grass Music Festivals and wood carving.

He is survived by a son, Jonathan J. (Niki Hedden), of Schnecksville; grandchildren, Paige and Tanner.

A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith officiating.
