Emergency services equipment purchases approved
Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners approved ordinances for the township fire department at the Nov. 10 meeting.
Ordinance 41-2025 would see the purchase of a swift water rescue boat, which passed in a 7-0 vote. According to supporting documentation, this item for the fire department will cost around $85,000 and is included in the 2025 capital reserve budget.
Ordinance 42-2025 would see the purchase of replacement self-contained breathing apparatus gear for the fire department, passing in a 7-0 vote. The funding for this equipment is being paid through a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant of $375,000. The balance will be paid through the Whitehall Volunteers Firefighters Relief Association.
The board also approved a number of other ordinances and resolutions with unanimous 7-0 votes.
Ordinance 37-2025 was passed, requiring the installation of curbing and sidewalks for 193 feet along 1055 N. Sixth St., north of Sumner Avenue near Allentown.
Ordinance 43-2025 authorized the acceptance of purchase for the Axon suite master services in a five-year contract, which will last from 2026 to 2030. This ordinance will authorize the five-year contract with Axon, which will provide all equipment for the police department and other expenses for body cameras, side arm sensors, investigative officer video footage, evidence room video footage and other costs. This agreement would provide annual savings of more than $99,000 from purchasing the necessary equipment separately.
Resolution 3405 was passed in a 7-0 vote for the Mickley Prydun Farm project. The township will apply for a statewide Local Share Account grant for the farm improvements. The grant totals $524,465 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
Earlier this year, the board passed a vote on the second phase of the Mickley Prydun Farm plan, a project that will see many renovations for the historic property. Board Vice President Jeffrey Warren has a notable involvement in this project.
The board also approved the appointment of Christa Sterner in a 7-0 vote to serve as a member of Whitehall Township Fire Police.
