WC Henderson edges EHS

The Emmaus boys soccer team began its run in the state tournament last week. The Hornets entered states after placing second in the district tournament. They won the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship.

The Hornets edged District 12’s No. 1 seed, La Salle College, 1-0 last Tuesday, Nov. 4, at La Salle in the first round. The run ended the next game as Emmaus was defeated in a penalty shootout 1-0 (4-3) this past Saturday evening at Quakertown High School against District 1 third-place team West Chester Henderson.

In the victory over the Explorers, Alecks Przybylski scored the game’s only goal with about 13 minutes left in the first half on a penalty kick. The Green Hornets defense, which includes Rio Johnson, Lorenzo LoPiccolo, Ben Grossi and Noah Delgado, did not allow a shot on goal the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory. Will Peck did not make a save in net as Emmaus outshot La Salle 6-5 overall and 2-0 in shots on goal.

The Explorers held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

In the game with the Warriors, the two teams were held scoreless for regulation and then two overtime periods that sent the game into a shootout. WCH won it 4-3. Peck finished with six saves in net. The

Hornets had a 12-9 advantage in shots and had two corner kicks compared to six from West Chester Henderson.

The Warriors advanced to the semifinal round to take on District 11’s top seed, Parkland, Tuesday night at Hatboro-Horsham High School. The other semifinal features Seneca Valley, District 7’s two seed, and Abington, the District One two seed.

The Emmaus season ended with a 20-3-3 overall record and 13-1-3 mark in the conference.
