Emmaus girls volleyball falls in PIAA quarterfinal

The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team entered the state playoffs last week riding a lot of positive momentum.

The Hornets’ postseason run had included the program’s first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship and then earned silver in the District 11 tournament.

Emmaus opened states with a straight-set victory over District 2’s one seed, Delaware Valley, in the first round of states last Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Delaware Valley High School. Scores of the match were 25-22, 25-16 and 25-13.

This past Saturday in the quarterfinal round at Central Bucks South High School, the Hornets season came to an end as they fell to the top seed from District 1, Spring Ford, in straight sets by scores of 19-25, 21-25 and 23-25.

In the victory over the Warriors, Amanda Rivera led the attack with 11 kills and added 13 digs to finish with the double-double. Both Fiona Answini and Rosie Landino finished with eight kills and four digs each. Alyssa Heffner tallied 33 assists, eight digs and four kills. Emma Nesfeder and Claudia Walls each contributed three kills and both Corrine Slivka and Sophia Freemont recorded 12 digs to lead the defense.

Stats from the match with the Rams were not made available at the time of print.

Emmaus finished it season 21-5 overall and 14-2 in the conference, while Spring Ford improved to 28-0 on the year.

The two semifinal matches featured the Rams against Bishop Shanahan, the four seed out of District One, and then District 7’s two seed, Pine Richland, taking on District 1’s two seed, Unionville. Both matches were this past Tuesday night.
