It was a day for veterans at the aptly named Parkland School District’s Veterans Memorial Elementary School, 250 Twin Ponds Road, Breinigsville, Nov. 9.
The multipurpose room was filled with veterans from all services, family members and cheering students.
Keynote speaker was state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th.
His message was one of support for active duty members of the United States Military and veterans.
During the program, members of each class recited poetry, patriotic messages and performed musical renditions.
Members of the Parkland High School marching band provided a variety of numbers including “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Following the program, veterans were invited to join each other for light refreshments.
Principal Karen Dopera was the master of ceremonies.
Greeting the visitors was “Decker” a goldendoodle service dog providing companionship to veteran Army Sgt. Patrick Mount.
“Decker’s” name was chosen in remembrance of Army Spc. Cory Decker who suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from his deployments.
