Thorny history tackled with ‘White Rose’
A courageous tale of resistance and sacrifice crosses the stage with “The White Rose,” set for 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and 22 and 1 p.m. Nov. 22 and 23 in the auditorium at Northampton Area High School, 1619 Laubach Ave., as presented by the NAHS Drama Club.
Written by Craig Christie and Harry Allen, “The White Rose” is based on the true story of a nonviolent youth resistance movement against Germany’s Third Reich.
Aided by their professor, a group of students from the University of Munich attempts to rally support for their anti-fascist movement by distributing leaflets titled “The White Rose” during World War II. Sophie Scholl, her brother Hans and his friends risk all as they bravely oppose Hitler’s Nazi regime.
“I’m so proud of these young actors and crew members. They have shown wisdom and understanding beyond their years in tackling this timeless and heart-wrenching tale of courage and sacrifice in the face of seemingly insurmountable opposition,” Director Christine Marto said. “They give me endless hope for the future in their spirit of justice, possibility and determination to make the world a better place. ”
