On Nov. 1, Scouts from Troop 146 distributed brown paper bags to residents who wanted to participate in the Scouting for Food campaign. Residents fill the bags with food and Scouts return in one week to pick up the filled bags. Scouts were asked to leave bags on Capital Street in Salisbury Township by a resident. RIGHT: On the drive to Capital Street, members of the Troop notice a flag in need of help. Assistant Scoutmaster Chris Budinetz Sr. told the Scouts if the flag was not repaired by the time they passed by on their return trip, they should stop and fix it.CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS
Scouts receive permission to fix the flag after consulting with a worker so Assistant Scoutmaster Chris Budinetz Jr. searches his car for a zip tie and Scouts Roger Schmoyer IV and Zach Calario and their leaders get to work.
Scouts and their leaders remove the pole and reattach the flag. The Scout slogan is “Do a good turn daily” and this was the perfect opportunity to live up to that slogan while leading the Scouts by example – a win for everyone!
