Nov. 20
State Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-134th, is inviting residents to a community town hall to give the public a chance to discuss important state and local issues 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Grace UCC Church, 623 Cleveland St., Allentown. His district office staff will be available to answer any questions regarding the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program and other services for residents in the 134th Legislative District. Residents who have any questions about the town hall can call Schweyer’s district office at 610-791-6270.
The November monthly meeting of the Goschenhoppen Historians will be held 7:30 p.m. in the Public Meeting Hall of the organizational headquarters at Red Men’s Hall, 116 Gravel Pike, Green Lane. The program will begin with an historical presentation by Ed Johnson on the topic of the local Fries Rebellion of 1799, followed by a screening of the locally produced The Fries Rebellion Movie, introduced by SaraJane Williams; following the screening, there will be a question and answer session with Williams and a behind the scenes video. The evening will end with refreshments, fellowship time and good conversation.
Nov. 21
State Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-134th, is alerting local veterans that his next monthly support program will be held at his district office, 2132 S. 12th St., Suite 306, Allentown. A representative from the American Legion will be available for appointments. Appointments are available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service officer will be available to assist veterans and their families with benefits and services available to them. The representative also will be available to discuss pensions and other compensation, as well as education, health care and death benefits. Legion membership is not required; however, anyone interested in speaking with the adviser should schedule appointments by contacting Schweyer’s office at 610-791-6270.
Nov. 22
Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, l343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown (Old Route 22 at Krumsville), will hold a Christmas Bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include food, a Christmas flea market and a basket raffle. They are also collecting for Toys for Tots. If you would like to donate, bring items to the bazaar or the church by Dec. 13. Toys will be picked up shortly afterward. Nov. 26
St. John’s UCC Fogelsville, 1027 Church St., Fogelsville, will have a sticky bun sale in December. All orders are due by Nov. 26 and the pickup date will be noon to 2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the church. They are available in plain, walnut, pecan, raisin and coconut. Nov. 30
Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, will accept orders until Nov. 30 for their hoagie sale. Choose either regular Italian with everything, no peppers, no onions with peppers, no onions or peppers; ham and cheese, no onions or peppers; turkey, no onions or peppers; roast beef, no onions or peppers; tuna or veggie. Ingredients will be supplied by Thomson’s Meat Market, Walnutport. Pickup will take place 4-6 p.m. Dec. 9. To place an order, call Marilyn at 610-395-6885.
Dec. 6
The Allentown Music Club will present “Sounds of the Season” featuring sacred and secular music 2:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. This will be a combined program featuring The Young Musicians and the adult clubs. The performers are Siobhan DeRemer, soprano, Steven Molloy, tenor, Darlene Ziegler, piano, Camille Vernaar, flute and Brenda Phillips, guest piano. The program coordinator is Siobhan DeRemer. All are welcome . The program is free and open to the public. Three young musicians will also perform.
