Yakaitis competes in D-11 Golf Championship

Salisbury’s Chase Yakaitis finished in the top 10 at last week’s District 11 Golf Championships.

The Falcon freshman shot 12-over par 84 to finish in eighth place in Class 2A at the tournament, which was held Tuesday, Sept. 30 at The Steel Club in Hellertown.

Yakaitis shot 41 on the front nine and 43 on the back in his first District 11 Championship. He made seven pars, 10 bogeys and one double bogey at the event.

He finished tied for eighth place and one stroke away from a tie for fifth place, which would have gotten him into a playoff to reach the state championships. The top six boys players at districts advance to this week’s state tournament in State College.

Schuylkill Haven’s Allen Evans won the Class 2A boys tournament last week, shooting 78 before beating Saucon Valley’s Anthony Albano in a playoff for the title.

In Class 3A, Nazareth’s Holden Sparks took the title with a 3-under par 69 to finish one shot ahead of Northampton’s Derek Moyer. Sparks shot 38 on the front nine then made all five of his birdies on the back nine for a 31.

In the girls tournaments, Moravian Academy’s Mara Dubacher won with a 9-over par 81. She was four shots ahead of Lion’s teammate Katherine Anthony, who shot 85 for second place.

In Class 3A, East Penn Conference champ Alexis Teichman (Emmaus) won the title in a playoff over Colonial League champ Lexi Miller. Both shot 14-over par 86 before Teichman won on the first hole of the playoff.
