Unbeaten football team stymies Central Catholic
The Parkland High School football team kept its undefeated mark going with another win by double figures, taking down Central Catholic 37-7 last Friday night in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game at Parkland School District Stadium.
The Trojans (8-0 overall, 5-0 EPC) have now won all eight of their games so far by double figures. Parkland and Easton are the lone unbeatens in the conference. The two teams do not meet during the regular season.
The Trojans and Vikings (4-4, 3-2) were both held scoreless in the first quarter, but then the home team got things going in the second quarter, accounting for 13 points and then adding 17 more in the third to put the game out of reach. They added another touchdown in the fourth to cap the scoring.
On the Vikings first possession, Blake Nassry came up with an interception to halt any potential momentum and turned it right in favor of his team.
Parkland, however, could not capitalize as a missed field goal gave CCHS the ball right back. After the defense forced a punt, TJ Lawrence opened up the scoring in the game with a 56-yard score early in the second quarter.
Just before halftime, Finn Coen threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nassry as the Trojans took a 13-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the middle of the third quarter, Andrea Giroudon bounced back and drilled a 30-yard field goal for a 16-0 advantage. On the next
possession, Lawrence found pay dirt for the second time in the game, this time from 21 yards away.
Later in the quarter, Coen and Nassry once again connected on a touchdown pass and catch from 61 yards out as the Trojans went on top 30-0.
Central Catholic got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Parkland responded thanks to a five-yard touchdown run by Caleb Corsa to cap the scoring.
Coen finished with 202 yards through the air and two touchdowns. Lawrence rushed for 108 yards and two scores on 14 carries. Naquan Thomason ran for 71 yards on 11 carries. Nassry caught six passes for 130 yards and two TDs.
Defensively, Liam Spang led the unit with 10 total tackles and a sack. Michael Car and Cooper Bauer both had a sack.
Parkland takes on Whitehall Thursday night in the final regular season road game. The Trojans host rival Emmaus next Friday.
