After going 15-0 in the East Penn Conference regular season, the Parkland girls tennis team followed that with a first-place finish at last week’s EPC Championships.
Parkland players swept the three singles titles, one Trojan doubles team won a league title and another earned third place at the league tournament, held Friday, Sept. 25 at Freedom High School.
Lexie Warsing, the defending District 11 singles champ, won the No. 1 singles title at the league championships. Sadie Pollard took first place at No. 2 singles. And Sonia Lee finished first in the No. 3 singles bracket.
Parkland’s Kiana Miles and Yihan Li won the No. 2 doubles bracket at leagues, while teammates Syrien Alvin and Ariana Tahir took third place at No. 4 doubles.
Parkland earned the team title at the event, finishing with 23 points to edge Central Catholic (22) by one point.
“We talk about fighting for every ball, every point,” said Parkland head coach Candace Young. “The championship came down to a decisive match point on our fourth doubles court - the last point played at the tournament. I tell the girls that one day your point for the team is going to make the difference. This was truly the case [at the EPC Championships]. In decisive moments we must believe - in our shots, in ourselves, our partners, our team and our hard work and preparation.”
