Trojans turn tables on Pates in semi
The Parkland High School boys soccer team is looking for a better postseason tournament this week compared to the last one it was in two weeks ago.
The Trojans lost in the semifinal round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference playoffs, but are now just one win away from winning the District 11 4A title, which would be their second in-a-row and third in the last four seasons.
In the quarterfinal round, second-seeded Parkland took down the seventh seed, Nazareth, 4-0 last Wednesday night at Parkland High School. The Trojans had four different goal scorers, including Alex Hurwitz, Lincoln Fritz, Ethan Frey and Taj Pollard. Hurwitz and Anthony Bautista each added an assist. Parkland outshot the Blue Eagles 10-2 in shots on goal and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Matt Feiller finished with two saves in net for the win.
This past Tuesday night, the Trojans fell behind and were forced to rally late to come out on top in the semifinal round to defeat the third seed, Freedom, 2-1 at Emmaus High School.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard with 2:53 left to play until halftime and kept that advantage until there was less than seven minutes to play in regulation.
Parkland netted two goals within just 19 seconds of each other as Talmage Pollard found the back of the net with 6:29 remaining and then he assisted on Lincoln Fritz’s goal with 6:10 to play as the Trojans completed the comeback and will play for gold.
Parkland, which is now 20-1-1 overall, will take on the top seed and EPC champs, Emmaus, in the championship game Thursday night at Northampton High School’s Al Erdosy Stadium. They qualified for the PIAA State Tournament regardless of the outcome of the district final.
