Trojans trounce Dieruff, 49-0

For the fourth straight game, the Parkland High School football team scored at least 40 points and allowed less than 14 points, continuing its undefeated season.

The Trojans put up 42 points in the first half and pitched a shutout on their way to a 49-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win against Dieruff last Friday night at J. Birney Crum Stadium.

It is the seventh straight victory for Parkland, joining Easton as the only unblemished teams in the conference and District 11 Class 6A.

The Trojans scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and doubled that output for 28 points in the second quarter and added a third score for insurance in the third.

TJ Lawrence was the star of the game as the running back accounted for 117 yards on the ground on 11 carries and added four touchdowns. His first touchdown of the game was the opening score in the first quarter. He added a 50-yard touchdown to cap off the first quarter scoring and then scored twice in the second quarter.

Liam Spang, who rushed for 53 yards on three carries on the night, scored from two yards away to open the second quarter scoring. Finn Coen then connected with Domenic Martrich for a touchdown just before halftime as the Trojans went into the locker room ahead 42-0.

Naquan Thomason rounded out the scoring for Parkland with a 26-yard touchdown to start the third quarter. He had 49 yards total.

Blake Nassry led all receivers with 31 yards, all came on one catch.

Defensively, the Trojans were led by five tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss from Spang. Both Michael Car and Jaren Sanchez finished with four tackles and one for loss, with the latter coming up with a sack. Thomason also had a sack and a blocked punt. It was the second straight shutout for Parkland.

Parkland hosts Central Catholic (4-3, 3-1) Friday night at Parkland Area School District Stadium for homecoming.
