PHS girls volleyball falls BC in playoffs

The Parkland High School girls volleyball team had its run in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference tournament end when it met the conference’s best team all season in Bethlehem Catholic, who had earned the top seed after an undefeated regular season.

The Golden Hawks were victorious over the Trojans in four sets by scores of 25-20, 14-25, 25-16, 25-13 last Tuesday night, Oct. 14, at Northampton High School in the EPC semifinal round. Becahi went on to fall for the first time in 2025 in five sets to Emmaus in the EPC championship match.

Kasia Burda led the attack with 12 kills and also had a team-high six blocks, also adding eight digs.

Sami Walls finished with eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Both Riley Schilling and Gabby Nissen recorded five kills and combined for three blocks and seven digs. MJ Bhanji tallied four kills and a block. Alex Serina contributed 31 assists, two kills and eight digs. Chloe Coonradt paced the defensive effort with 19 digs, while Zoey Leach added six and Josee Kim four.

Parkland, which is now 15-5 overall, received the third seed in the District 11 4A Tournament. The Trojans will host the sixth seed, Pocono Mountain East (11-8 overall), tonight in the quarterfinal round. The winner will take on the winner of the second seed, Freedom, against the seventh seed, Pocono Mountain West, in the semifinal round Tuesday night at Catasauqua High School.

On the other side of the bracket, top seed and EPC champion Emmaus, takes on the eighth seed, Liberty in one quarterfinal matchup, and then fourth-seeded Pleasant Valley meets fifth-seeded Nazareth in another quarter.
