Pates upset Trojans in semi

The Parkland High School boys soccer team was rolling on all cylinders for the entire 2025 regular season, finishing off undefeated at 17-0 heading into the postseason.

The Trojans earned the number one overall seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tournament and defeated the eighth seed, Central Catholic, 4-0 in the quarterfinal round. But in the semifinals, Parkland was upset by the fourth seed, Freedom, 1-0 at Pleasant Valley last Thursday night on an overtime, golden goal winner.

Eduardo Freitas was able to find the back of the net in the first overtime period after neither team could break through in both halves. Andrew Staples finished with four saves in net.

Parkland, which is now 18-1-1 overall, earned the two seed in the District 11 4A Tournament and hosted the seventh seed, Nazareth, in the quarterfinal round this past Wednesday night at Parkland High School. The winner will take on the winner of the third seed, Freedom, and sixth seed, Pleasant Valley, in the semifinals next Tuesday. The Trojans defeated the Blue Eagles 4-0 in the only regular season meeting back on Sept. 12.

The other side of the bracket features the top seed and EPC champion, Emmaus, taking on the eighth seed, Easton, in one quarterfinal round matchup. The other quarterfinal is the fourth seed Northampton and the fifth seed, Liberty.
