Parkland will be a top-three seed in volleyball tourney

The Parkland High School girls volleyball team won both of its matches in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition last week, but dropped a match in nonconference play.

The Trojans defeated Whitehall in straight sets last Wednesday, Oct. 1. The following night they fell to Bishop Shanahan in four sets and then took down Dieruff in straight sets this past Monday.

In the victory over the Zephyrs, scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-13.

Both Riley Schilling and Kasia Burda led the attack with nine kills, with the latter adding four digs and two blocks.

Sami Walls and Gabby Nissen each finished with six kills and MJ Bhanji recorded five kills, two digs and one block.

Josee Kim paced the defense with 12 digs with Zoey Leach adding 11 digs. Gabby Brader contributed 26 assists.

Scores from the match with the Eagles were 23-25, 13-25, 26-24, 20-25.

Walls paced the offense with 15 kills, while Schilling added 12 kills. Burda tallied six kills and three blocks. Chloe Coonradt finished with 23 digs.

Kim added 13 digs and Leach had 12 digs. Alex Serina contributed 36 assists and 11 digs.

In the win against the Huskies, scorers were 25-11, 25-20, 25-11. Burda notched 15 kills, two blocks and four service aces.

Laila Coppedge totaled eight kills and Walls had four kills and five aces. Coonradt recorded 12 digs and Leach had nine. Serina finished with 19 assists.

Parkland, which is now 14-3 overall and 13-2 in the conference, played at Emmaus in the regular season finale Wednesday night.

The winner of that match will be the two seed in the EPC Tournament, behind undefeated Bethlehem Catholic, the one seed.

The loser of the rivalry match would be the three seed and still host a quarterfinal round match at EPCs.
