Parkland routs Zephs
The Parkland High School football team has had some big victories during the regular season so far out of its nine in an undefeated start to 2025.
That includes several double-digit wins and victories over talented teams, but its latest triumph came on the road, in a short week, against a team that had just one loss in its first eight games before last week.
The Trojans, which actually trailed 7-6 in the first quarter, responded to the tune of 47 unanswered points to get the better of Whitehall 53-7 last Thursday night at Whitehall High School in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game. It was both the second-highest scoring output of the season and second-largest margin of victory.
Parkland improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference and the Zephyrs fell to 7-2 and 5-1.
TJ Lawrence scored the first of his four rushing touchdowns early in the first quarter to give his team a 6-0 lead (the PAT failed), but host Whitehall answered on its next offensive possession on a 39-yard TD run by Jeziah Gregory to go on top 7-6 after they made their kick.
With their backs against the wall early on, the Trojans showed why they are one of the top, if not best, team in the conference and rolled off 47 straight points and seven touchdowns to secure the come-from-behind victory.
Lawrence followed the Whitehall touchdown with a 15-yard score to put Parkland back in front for good and then Finn Coen found Blake Nassry for a seven-yard touchdown pass as the Trojans led 20-7 after the opening quarter.
Lawrence tallied a 57-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter and Naquan Thomason scored from eight yards out to push the advantage to 33-7 at halftime. Lawrence earned his fourth rushing touchdown of the game from five yards away and Liam Spang found pay dirt from a yard out in the third quarter.
Justin Barnes capped the scoring for Parkland with an 89 yard touchdown catch from David Scherb in the fourth quarter.
Lawrence finished with 137 yards on the ground on 11 carries, while also finishing with five tackles. Spang and Domenic Martrich led the team with six tackles each, with the latter adding two sacks and two tackles for loss.
Parkland concludes the regular season with a home game against rival Emmaus Friday night on senior night at Parkland School District Stadium.
