Hornets snap three-game skid
The Emmaus football team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 42-7 win over Dieruff last week.
The Hornets rolled up 374 yards of offense while holding the Huskies to just 96 yards (63 rushing, 33 passing).
Jerek Cooper (12 carries, 98 yards, 2 TDs), Jay Santos 17-86, 2 TD) and Anthony Attar (3-59, TD) led an Emmaus running game that racked up 276 yards against Dieruff (1-7).
Cooper also went 6-for-8 passing for 91 yards and a score.
Jamaad Sanders caught four passes for 79 yards, while Ty Laird had a touchdown catch in the win.
Emmaus (3-5) scored once in the first quarter and three times in the second for a 28-0 halftime lead. The Hornets added one touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters.
The Huskies’ only touchdown came in the fourth quarter.
Robert Edwards led the Hornet defense with eight tackles, including three for loss. Mason Lenig had five tackles with two for loss. Brady McHugh had three solo tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.
Gavin Yartymyk went 5-for-5 on extra points. George Marmaros made one extra point.
Emmaus drew a bit closer to Pocono Mountain West for the eighth and final spot in the District 11 Class 6A playoffs. The Hornets are ninth in the district rankings heading into the final two weeks of the season and will look to pull ahead of the Panthers or seventh-place Northampton to earn a playoff berth.
The Hornets host Allen this week before finishing the season at Parkland on Oct. 24.
