Falcons finish one-loss season

While a perfect regular season would have been nice, a loss to a good team in the final game might serve a purpose for the Salisbury field hockey team.

The Falcons made it through 16 games without a loss this season and then ran into Southern Lehigh in a rematch of a game earlier in the season and a potential preview of the Colonial League championship game.

The Lady Spartans won the season finale 2-1 with Delaney Mack getting a pair of assists as she fed Scarlet Posavek and Alli Denzel for goals.

Ellie Schneider, who also scored a goal in the first meeting between the two teams, got the lone goal for Salisbury. Goalie Caroline Gedney made two saves for the Lady Falcons.

“I think that it was a bit of a wake-up call for us,” said senior Gwyn DeFazio of the loss to Southern Lehigh. “We wanted to stay undefeated, but that gave us a bit of a chip on our shoulder going into the playoffs.”

While the two teams tied in their regular season series, Salisbury still maintained the top seed in the Colonial League tournament and enters the postseason as the top-ranked team in District 11 2A field hockey.
