Emmaus takes second in D-11 team tourney

The Emmaus girls tennis team finished a successful season last week when it competed in the District 11 team tournament.

The Hornets won two matches in team districts before falling to Parkland in the title match last week at Lehigh University.

“We had a great season,” said Emmaus head coach Robert Dragotta. “The kids are wonderful. They work hard.”

Emmaus opened the district tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 14 with a 5-0 win over Freedom.

Sophia Kaufman, Anshi Kanani and Gab Tranguch all won singles matches against the Patriots. Brooke DiGiacomo and Nat Hillegass won the No. 1 doubles match. Fiona Harvey and Zoe Santana won the No. 2 doubles match.

The Hornets pulled out a 3-2 win over Nazareth in the district semifinals.

Kanani and Kaufman won singles matches against the Blue Eagles, while DiGiacomo and Hillegass earned a point in their doubles match.

In the title match, Emmaus ran into a Parkland singles line up that has three players who all reached district singles semifinals, including two-time district singles champ Lexie Warsing, along with Sadie Pollard and Sonia Lee, who teamed up to win the district doubles title this fall.

Parkland swept the singles matches at the district final to take the trophy.

DiGiacomo/Hillegass and Harvey/Santana won doubles matches for Emmaus.

“They played well,” said Dragotta. “If we could have sneaked a singles match out we would have won the match. We played well.”

The Hornets went 16-2 in 2025. The team will graduate it’s top two singles players in Kaufman and Kanani, but the rest of this year’s starting line up is expected to return in 2026.
